History of the Dow Jones Industrial Average charts the creation and evolution of one of the most important stock market indices in the world. In addition, the graphic provides information on the early days of the Dow when it contained companies such as American Can, U.S. Rubber, and Peoples Gas; the creator Charles Dow; and the break-down of the Dow by industry over time.

This chart was created by John Paul Koning. John Paul is a well known financial writer, researcher, graphic designer, trader, and artist.
